Born and raised in Colorado, Brian Hubel began woodworking over 15 years ago. Although Brian studied Chemistry and Biology through college, his desire to design and create furniture grew and upon graduating from college, Brian became devoted to making woodworking his profession and started his own business in 1998. “I craved woodworking, I needed it. I had to do something with my hands.”
Brian is a self-taught woodworker who is passionate about designing and crafting every piece to perfection. He runs a one-man shop where every idea and creation takes place. Starting with a mental image and a rough sketch, the process begins. “Knowing that the piece will experience many transformations, I rarely draft detailed plans. You never know when inspiration may strike.” He selects every piece of wood to perfectly fit the look and feel intended for the project. Every aspect of designing and crafting the piece is carefully thought out in order to create a piece that is visually appealing, functional and will stand the test of time.
Brian is attracted to clean lines, simple design and tight construction. Much of his work has a flair for the orient. “The piece should stand on its own, graceful, something you never tire of viewing.”
Brian also teaches woodworking to aspiring woodworkers in Colorado. “It’s very rewarding to see a piece that a student has completed and know that you played a part. Teaching also makes me very aware of the fact that you never stop learning, you never stop exploring the possibilities.”
