How to Order

The basis for this piece of wood art began with the discovery of the magnificent wedge-shaped piece of Claro black Walnut (Juglans hindsii) that created the top for this work of art. A very unusual piece of natural-edged Claro black Walnut was used to create the top surface of the hall table. Note that evidence that the unique cut of the large tree stump was accomplished via a chain saw has been retained: a look at the underside reveals hints of the original chain-saw tracks.

The legs (see additional photos) and front-to-back spreaders have been fabricated from American black Walnut (Juglans nigra) that in turn has been ebonized to complement the tabletop. The success of the artist’s unusual rear-support cantilevered design depends upon the strength of precise hand-chiseled blind double-wedged (two hidden wedges per leg) mortise-and-tenon joints (Japanese jigoku-kusabi joinery technique) for permanent attachment of the legs to the upper slab. The lower long-spreader, fabricated from Claro black walnut provides lateral support with an artistic flare.

The table has been hand finished with a durable oil-varnish to highlight the natural color and protect the beautiful character of the black walnut timbers while giving the table a warm feeling to the touch. As with all of his wood art pieces the title of the piece, creation date and artist information has been permanently stamped on the underside of the piece.
