Quartersawn Zebrawood (Microberlinia brazzavillensis) represents one of nature's most spectacular timbers with its parallel zebra-like alternating stripes of creamy heartwood with narrow veins of chocolate brown that warrant the naming of this beautiful timber.

The American Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) legs accented with ebonized socks trimmed with petite bands of English ‘Christmas tree’ Holly (Ilex aquifolium) complement the intense contrasting colors of the upper surfaces. Lacking lower support members, the success of the design depends upon precise hand-chiseled blind wedged mortise-and-tenon joints (Japanese jigoku-kusabi joinery technique) for attachment of the legs. The upper backboard is firmly held in place between the extended rear legs with traditional hand-fitted mortise-and-tenon joinery.

The sideboard is hand finished with a durable oil-varnish to highlight the naturally contrasting range of colors and protect the beautiful patina of the timber while giving the piece a warm feeling to the touch.
